New Life In Canada
Woohoo - I can't believe it's been 5 years already. Sometimes it feels like I came half a year ago. Moving to Canada was the best decision I've ever made and all because of an idea.
My Plan was:
- Go to Canada to learn English
- Stay for 1 year & go back to Germany
Well I guess number 1 went pretty well. I barely was able to say one complete sentence in English. And now 5 years later - I can't imagine my life without it. Number 2 didn't go as planned. I knew after being in Canada for 6month that I didn't want to leave. I am very happy I took this big step. I can say for myself - Canada is where I belong. It wasn't/ isn't always easy but with friends on your side anything is possible. One step at a time, right? Yes I did have moments where I wasn't sure what I am acutally doing here but when I look back - it was all worth it. After a couple of hard weeks - everything is going in the right direction now. Very HAPPY!
At last nights celebration with 2 of my closest friends - I realized how far I have come. I've been living on my own for almost 10 years now - 5 years of that in a complete new country with a new language I didn't really like. Not everyone believed I could do it but I did it.
I've learnt a lot about myself. No matter how big or small your idea is - Go out and do whatever makes you happy. I know it is not always easy to go out on your own but it is soooo worth it. Every experience in life teaches you something.

To everyone that I've met along my way ...
Thank You! |
Special Thank You to Michelle who is always there for me - to support me, help me, make me laugh when I don't even want to smile. You are fantastic - Everyone should have a friend like you. ... Also Huge Thanks to Robin who changed my life without even knowing it. When we first met you said two things that changed everything. Very grateful to have met you and to have you in my life.

Congratulations on your special milestone anniversary Antje! I remember when you first came to Canada and how I impressed you (made you laugh) with the only three words of German I remembered from my course. I'll keep learning and hope to visit Germany with you some day my friend.
ReplyDeleteI have loved watching you grow and evolve and become more of yourself. You were all of these things but have become more confident, independent, adventurous, determined and open. What I love most about the photos from each year is that your smile is bigger and bigger.
I know from my years living in Quebec that moving away from your home, family and familiar language and customs is not easy (but it is very rewarding). You didn't give up when things didn't go as planned and now doors have opened for you that never would have been possible without you taking the steps to leave what you knew and learn something new.
I'm glad things are on the right path now and I continue to wish you sunshine and rainbows every day. xoxoxo
